Philadelphia (also called Philly or The City of Brotherly Love) is the largest city, in area and population, of Pennsylvania.
It is situated on the west shore of the
Delaware River and it’s crossed by the Schuylkill River; the old town is situated between these two rivers.

It’s one of the oldest and most historically important cities in the
USA. It played a very significant role in the history of the American independence, democracy and freedom. Between the 18th and 19th century it was the biggest city of the United States; it’s here that the Declaration of Independence and the American Constitution were written.
Today Philadelphia is a modern and lively city with important commercial and industrial headquarters and it also offers an interesting cultural life with many museums, monuments and an intense nightlife, which make it one of the best touristic city of the United States.

The one around Market  Street  is without any doubt the most modern, populated and commercially important area, where there are the best restaurants and hotels; the most important building is the City Hall, the headquarter of the political and administrative life of the city.

Near the Old City Hall we visited the Independence Hall, which is one of the most important and interesting historical monuments of the USA .
In his Assembly room  the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were created and signed.
A ranger explained us what its political functions were and what happened here during American history.
Opposite the Independence Hall is the Liberty Bell Center, which hosts Philadelphia's most prized icon, the Liberty Bell, a worldwide symbol of freedom.
The Liberty Bell was hung and first heard in 1753 in the State House of Pennsylvania, to summon the Assembly to debate some acts made by the British Parliament and it also announced the defeat of  the British after the Independence War..

Its inscription “Proclaim Liberty throughout All the land unto All the Inhabitants Thereof.” expressed the wish for independence of the north Americans colonies during the XVIII century.

So it reminds American people of the significance of the War of Independence and the revolutionary changes of that time.
Important for the American history, is also the Congress Hall, where the American Congress met for the first time.
We took a look around the center of Philadelphia and we discovered its very significant role in a lot of aspects: historical, political, cultural, social, economic and commercial.
We visited the monuments which shaped American history and walked through the city center and its shops, banks and restaurants, immersed in a very cosmopolitan city.
